Legislative Action Alert- Write the Governor today and encourage him to sign bill to create Center of ExcellenceNAMI-NYS supports bill A09593B/S8261.  This bill, which was approved by the state Legislature, amends the §5.07 Article of the Mental Hygiene Law (MHL) to direct the New York State Office of Mental Health to establish two centers of excellence in culturally and linguistically competent mental health care.  The centers will be responsible for investigating and disseminating best practices for the delivery of culturally and linguistically competent mental health services to underserved populations affected by disparities due to cultural, linguistic and systemic barriers.
The legislation went to the Governor for consideration on August 4 and may be in danger of being vetoed.
